Soon, my pretties…

Soon I will be posting a revamp of Lullaby’s premise! Yaaay!

However I can tell you now, there will be the following:

Story changes:

• Toying with the idea of 5 possible routes. (Two good ends; three bad ends. It’s still a depressing story despite the changes!!)
• Dr. Pond now has her own routes. Also, her first name has been changed to Sienna for good reasons.
• Both characters have unique routes that are largely effected by your choices
• 3 love scenes each per route; 8 total for different routes
• Protagonist now has a name; Zeke. Decided against the customization; it’s pretty pointless haha.
• There will be a skippable prologue before the story describing the state of the world, genetic engineering, ect.

Artwork Changes:

• Simple storybook-like art for the prologue
• Going to re-design Melody’s dress and shorten her hair a little.
• Backgrounds will be drawn by me only
• Going to use thin lines instead of thick lines

This week will be PROGRESS WEEK! Progress will generally be slow, however… I’m also helping out with the art on  the wonderful visual novel Homeward . There is a lot to do still, and both Samu-kun (creator of Homeward) and I are getting the summer lazies. I can’t be lazy for much longer though, I have summer classes to take in only 2 weeks. Computer Engineering will be fun, but I am not looking forward to Statistics… Oh well, hopefully I can find some way to apply it.

Expect this place to get spiffied up soon. I have a persona/mascot that I’ve designed for the site; I’ll be introducing her soon.

First Project: A Dis-utopian Love Song

EDIT: Major edits here, folks. Dr. Pond is now romance-able! Also a lot of the plot is changing… Let’s see how it all pans out!

So, here’s the first project I will be creating with Ren’py under Red Velvet Software!

Working Title: Utopian Lullaby (hoping to improve it. It’s pretty generic)

• Freeware Creative Commons Game created with free Creative Commons assets such as the Music from Jamendo and the open source program Ren’py.
• Tragic 18+ Boy x Girl visual novel with full sex scenes; featuring 1 love interest (Gotta start small.)
• Soft Science Fiction setting
• Inspired by the classic dis-utopian movie THX 1138, The Giver Trilogy, and romantic scifi/tragic visual novels such as Saya no Uta and Narcissu.

Back story:

Earth is over populated. Women are required to take pills to supress their reproductive cycles as soon as puberty hits; and any children conceived from unauthorized sexual relations are aborted. People who want to get married and have children must be inspected for good gene matching; children must be very special in order to be born.

People live in colonies of various sizes that focus on different kinds of industries (such as farming or sciences). There are now only two classes, the extremely rich and the working class. Many people are specially bred to be good at their given tasks, and everyone is expected to finish their assigned education and take good care of their bodies.

Each Colony has government run “Special Care Facilities”,  known as the “Last Chance” hospitals to most people. Criminals and critically ill people are sent to  these facilities, where they are judged for their worth to society. If a person is found to be unfitted for society or their illness renders them useless; they are exterminated.

Main Plot:

The protagonist lives in a colony that focuses mostly on energy creation. He is sent to one of these hospitals when his legs are badly burned during an deadly accident at his work. You are taken in by the beautiful Dr. Pond, who seems to have a lot of interest in you. She seems to know something about your accident, but she won’t say anything…

Due to overcrowding in the facility, the protagonist is roomed with a young woman named Melody; who is a Queen Mother- a woman genetically engineered by a rich family to be the perfect childbearer. She is currently afflicted by a virus that is attacking her internal organs; and her rich family is considering having her “put down”.

Gameplay:

Players can name their character. I’d like to add even more customization to my games; but with my lack of resources and skill this is the best I can do. If they press enter without a name, they’ll get a default name for the character.

As usual, not a lot of interaction as expected from a visual novel, though I’m going to try to make the choices not very predictable.

Character Designs (subject to changes):

They’re very messy because I just threw some concept sketches in photoshop to clean them up and colored em in sai. The final art quality will be much better! (I hope. -gulp-!)

I added in their “stats”, I’ve always admired how Japanese eroges have the measurements and birthdays of characters; so I used that aspect in the designs.

Melody:

She was genetically enhanced to be attractive and kind. She has a great singing voice (though unfortunately you’ll never hear it; no way am I putting voices into this game) and tries to take care of the protagonist, even though her illness is much more serious than his.

White hair, Blue eyes and my attempt at an “original” fluffy white dress. She’s a sweetie. And she has a nice rack, though it’s pretty much hidden here. I realize her hair is fading into the background. Probably should have gone with another color… Derp.

Dr. Pond (non-romance-able, sorry folks.):

Dr. Pond is Melody and the Protagonist’s assigned doctor. She’s quiet and stern at first, but she actually has a big heart and is very kind. Infact, she seems to be very fond of Melody… and the Protagonist.

Obviously did not spend much time drawing or coloring her; my hand was already hurting after all the adjustments I made with Melody. I’ve always viewed red-haired ladies as bad ass and intelligent ever since I first started watching X-files as a kid. Scully was amazing.

Backgrounds:

None drawn yet, expect simple black-and-steel-and-white-all-over futuristic rooms and some other simple scenery. Looking for a possible assistant to help me with the backgrounds.

Music:

Already picked some stuff, background music helps my work flow.

Possible Music:

•  Castillo de versos (guitarra version) ( I like  this one a lot. The Spanish really know how to make good music! Possible theme for the game?)
• Angel’s Redemption (Sad but curious. Love this guy’s work, he’s always been fantastic!)

Why am I here? Who are you?

Well, you’re probably reading this a long time after I posted it, but I hope that makes this post more enjoyable!

So. Here’s some info on me and why I made this blog.

I’ve loved anime art and interactive stories since I was a child. I used to read “choose your own adventure” books whenever I could; I thought they were the best books ever written. And don’t get me started on how much I loved the cast of Sailor Moon… I don’t know if words could express my love for them back then; my thoughts usually were “THEY DANCE AROUND NAKED BARELY COVERED IN PRETTY RIBBONS AND THAT CAT CAN TALK AND THAT LITTLE GIRL HAS PINK HAIR SQUEEE!” whenever the topic came up.

So, obviously both these loves carried on into my teen years, which helped me discover the wonderful world of visual novels and Bishoujo games. I was enthralled with the fact that my two loves had combined; allowing interaction with the anime style plot lines I’ve always treasured in my favorite literary medium.

As I got even older (19 is so old!) I began to get into the more popular eroges, or erotic visual novels. The wonderful thing about most Eroges is that they display sex as part of a relationship (or, multiple relationships). I don’t find them something naughty to look at, more like simulated relationships with fictional girls (and/or boys). In good Eroges you have to create some kind of connection with the character you’re interested in in order to make love to them. It’s a really beautiful medium- though, of course not all Eroges are like this… many are not much better than any other porno you’d find on the internet. But there are many gems out there that are worth a play!

Anyways, so this blog… I created it to document my progress on my own visual novel and eroge game(s). Red Velvet is a reference to the delicious godly substance known as red velvet cake; which I love (along with many other kinds of cakes). It also sounds sexy, no? Despite the sexiness I won’t be posting any true adult content on here; if I do post anything it will be heavily censored for safety. My games may have love scenes; but you’ll have to wait till the game is done to see them!

I will be adding snippets from my current project(s) here eventually… Right now I’m going to take it slow and try to not get ahead of myself! Thanks for reading. 🙂
